What's open and closed in Windsor-Essex on Boxing Day?

This holiday season is vastly different from those past. This means that Boxing Day this time around won't be the same.

As of midnight Friday night, the entire province of Ontario is subject to a lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19. With that, the usual Boxing Day traditions will be altered in some ways. For the most part, the Boxing Day shopping deals will be limited to online only.

December 26 is a statutory holiday in Canada. However, with the 26th falling on a Saturday this year, the holiday will be observed on Monday.  Although all municipal offices will be closed, there are some places open and closed Saturday, subject to the province's lockdown guidelines.

All federal, provincial and municipal offices are closed Monday. There will be no mail delivery. All Service Ontario branches are closed, though some transactions can be performed online.

All Beer Store locations are closed on Boxing Day, but open on Monday. Check with your favourite location for hours and COVID-19 policies. The LCBO is closed Saturday, but open Monday.

Devonshire Mall is open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for access to essential businesses only. Most shops and services will be closed. The same goes for Tecumseh Mall, which is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle will be open Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for curbside service at selected outlets only.

All branches of the Windsor Public Library are closed Saturday, but open on Monday with limited in-person and curbside service.

Essex County Library branches will be closed Boxing Day, but open on Monday with curbside service only at the Amherstburg, Essex, Kingsville, Lakeshore-Toldo, LaSalle, Leamington, and Tecumseh branches.

In the city of Windsor, there will be no residential garbage collection on Saturday with service delayed. Check your collection schedule for additional information. Commercial pickup will proceed as usual. Christmas tree pickup has been scheduled for Monday, January 11, 2021.

The city's public drop-off and haz-mat disposal depots are closed Saturday, but open Monday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The 311 Call Centre is closed both Saturday and Monday. The 211 call centre will operate 24/7 as usual.

All Windsor indoor arenas, community centres, swimming pools, and customer-care branches are closed until further notice.  Adventure Bay Family Water Park is also closed. Outdoor skating at Charles Clark Square and Lanspeary Park are closed until the city announces adjusted hours to reflect current lockdown policies.

There is no parking enforcement in Windsor on Boxing Day or on Monday. Street parking will be free, and the parking enforcement payment office will be closed. Garages and service lots will charge for parking as usual.

Transit Windsor will run on modified schedules. Check the website for specific information. The tunnel bus to Detroit is suspended until further notice.

The Francois Baby House and Chimczuk Museum are closed.
