Windsor police busy with enforcement over Christmas

Windsor police officers handed out a few enforcement actions to those believed to have violated COVID-19 enforcement guidelines.

The service released the results of its Reopening Ontario Act enforcement Wednesday, covering December 20 through December 26.

One charge was laid after officers responded to a religious gathering, finding it to be over the allowed capacity, which is a maximum of ten people.

Sergeant Steve Betteridge said the second charge was laid against a fitness centre that was open for business in violation of the Act.

A warning was also issued after officers responded to a complaint about an indoor gathering that exceeded the allowed limit.

The entire province of Ontario remains under "grey" lockdown status to address a rising number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

As a result, bars and restaurants are open for takeout and curbside service only, indoor gatherings are limited to five people within the same family, and many non-essential businesses are closed.
