A Tecumseh man is one of 16 people and organizations across Ontario to receive this year's June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Volunteerism.
Richard Zarour is the president of the Tecumseh Community Policing Committee and the Optimist Club of St. Clair Beach.
He also works to set a positive example for youth by coaching on a volunteer basis for the L'Essor Aigles Football team, and serving as a parent volunteer at St. Antoine School.
Other recipients this year include a military historian from Peterborough, a Sparta man who is the longest serving volunteer with the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority, and Aditi Sivakumar, who created the My Empowerment Platform and was the only Canadian to receive the 2019 Princess Diana Legacy Award.
The award is named for June Callwood, who was born in Chatham in 1924 and grew up in Belle River. She was a Canadian journalist, author, and social activist.
