Over 90,000 people vaccinated in Windsor-Essex

Over 90,000 people in Windsor-Essex have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

To date, 12,358 individuals have received both doses and 77,730 people have received at least one dose.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit opened vaccine clinics to those 60 and older as of Friday, April 2. However, appointments are now completely booked until April 12, 2021.

More appointments will not be made available until the health unit has confirmation from the province on vaccine supply and priority groups moving forward.

"There won't be any availability over the next couple of days until we have a better sense of other groups that may be taking some appointments and look at some of our planning and the overall vaccine numbers," said CEO and Chief Nursing Officer Theresa Marentette.

Currently, the region receives around 10,000 to 11,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine on a weekly basis.

Some primary care providers and pharmacies are also expected to get another delivery of the AstraZeneca vaccine. There is no word on when the vaccines will be delivered.
