Services at the air traffic control tower at Windsor International Airport will remain as they are.
NAV Canada confirmed all services will be maintained in Windsor and at six other airports that were part of a service study launched last fall. When the study was launched, NAV Canada said the aim was to streamline services with market demand.
“Stakeholder engagement is at the heart of NAV CANADA’s aeronautical study process. The valuable input we have received indicates that a balanced approach is warranted as the industry navigates the ongoing pandemic. We are proactively taking these steps to maintain a consistent level of service as the aviation industry and our many partners shift their focus to recovery,” said President and CEO Ray Bohn.
Windsor West M.P Brian Masse, along with Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, spoke out against the study when it was launched , citing concerns about the impact it would have on the airport's recovery.
“The victory today to preserve air traffic control services and protect our airports is the collective effort of everyone involved from air traffic controllers, airport workers, pilots, flying clubs, air passengers, cargo users, aircraft maintenance personnel, unions, municipal leaders, Chambers of Commerce, trade associations, firms from the automotive to agricultural sectors, and concerned residents in all the communities across the country,” said Masse.
Air traffic control service will also be maintained in Fort McMurray AB, Prince George BC, Regina SK, Saint-Jean QC, Sault Ste. Marie ON, and Whitehorse YT.
The organization also committed to suspending aeronautical studies currently underway related to remote or northern locations until further notice.
