While London gives parents a deadline, Windsor-Essex school boards await direction

You may have heard a couple of school boards across the province already want parents to decide whether their children will learn in-class or online in September.

Windsor-Essex residents can relax.

Both the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board and the Greater Essex County District School Board are not going to make parents decide yet.

Acknowledging making a decision now may be challenging for some families, the Thames Valley District School Board has given parents in the London area until May 13th. Once they decide, their child will learn either from home or in the classroom for the full year.

Director of Education at the Thames Valley District School Board, Mark Fisher, said moving between the two models is too disruptive for some students.

In Windsor-Essex, the Communications Coordinator with the English Catholic school board said it is still waiting for direction from the Ministry of Education.

"At this point, we have not made any final decisions about learning models for September," said Stephen Fields. "As soon as we have made those decisions about what the school year will look like, we will inform our students and their families."

The public school board is likewise waiting for the provincial government.

"We're not there yet," said Spokesman Scott Scantlebury. "Still considering what we will do and planning."
