Update: Is Windsor-Essex ready for another Miracle?

Could the generosity of the people of Windsor-Essex result in another miracle for those in need?

About 5,000 volunteers were out on Sunday, collecting food and supplies for the second annual June 27th Miracle, which has been promoted as the largest one-day food drive in the world.

Last June 27, thousands of residents set out donations at the side of the road for canvassers to collect, or they were dropped off at a variety of collection sites across the region. A whopping total of two million pounds of food and supplies were collected.

If your donations have not been picked up, organizers ask that you email June27FAQ@gmail.com, and someone will be out to pick it up.

The final tally is not expected to be released until later in the week.

Over 10,000 thousand volunteers helped with last year's Miracle. Organizing committee member Matt Hernandez told BlackburnNewsWindsor.com earlier this week that more volunteers are certainly welcome.

"One of the things that we learned from last year was that not only on the day of but even post-Miracle was when we needed people to help out," said Hernandez. "If you can’t help this weekend because of previous plans, please sign up for post-Miracle as we’re going to be needing people."

Dozens of agencies and organizations benefitted from the 2020 Miracle. This time, organizers are asking agencies who wish to receive benefits to register via the official Miracle website.
