Mayor reveals scope of Ypres Avenue project

The City of Windsor will spend $4.6-million to fix up a major collector road between Walker Road and Howard Avenue.

About 7,000 vehicles a day take Ypres Avenue to get between the two major arteries of the city.

Work on Ypres started on June 9, but Wednesday, Mayor Drew Dilkens outlined the full scope of the work.

A thicker, stronger layer of asphalt, capable of withstanding the stresses of all the traffic, will go down between Forest Avenue and Walker Road.

"It also paves the way for a proposed new bus route planned for Walkerville as part of the modernization and expansion of Windsor's public transportation system," said Dilkens.

The stretch will also get new sidewalks and new LED street lights.

Gladstone Avenue will also get a fresh surface over a new water main between Tecumseh Road East to Ypres.
