Daily cases of COVID-19 continued a downward trajectory on Tuesday as the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported just ten new infections.
Half of those are people who had close contact with another who already tested positive for the virus and is being tracked by public health officials. The origin of another four is still under investigation, and community transmission accounts for one.
There are nine people currently in the hospital, of which five are unvaccinated, and three have had both shots.
The number of active cases in the region is 178. One-hundred involve a variant of concern.
The province reported 331 new cases, seven new deaths, and 3,100 active cases. Public Health Canada, which posts its updates at 7 p.m. every weeknight, had 1,912 new infections, 53 deaths, and 24,363 active cases across the country as of Monday night.
The number of outbreaks in Windsor-Essex is on the decline as well. There are five in the community, one at a workplace, and at just one school, Princess Elizabeth Public School in Windsor.
The health unit said it had administered 639,843 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine so far. About 85.7 per cent of the local population over the age of 12 has had at least one dose, and 81.5 per cent are fully vaccinated.
As of Monday night, 74.3 per cent of all Ontario residents had had both shots, and 73.4 per cent of all Canadians.
