COVID-19 cases have sent students at ten schools across Windsor-Essex schools home.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board reported on Sunday evening that one class of students and one bus cohort from St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in River Canard have been dismissed after receiving notification of one confirmed case of COVID-19 at the school.
"We learned of the confirmed case this morning and have notified the affected students that they are not to attend school Monday," said board spokesperson Stephen Fields. "The health unit will notify those students when they are able to return to school."
Additionally, the board said one class of students from Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School in Windsor have also been dismissed after receiving notification of one confirmed case of COVID-19.
According to Fields, the board is working with the local health unit to identify students and staff who may have been directly impacted. A voice message to the entire school community was sent home on Sunday to them about the situation.
Parents are being instructed to not send children back to school until they have received further direction from the health unit.
On Friday, the English Catholic school board said it had closed St. Gabriel Catholic Elementary School for one week after the number of cases climbed.
The Greater Essex County District School Board reported a case each at Anderson Public School in Amherstburg, Gore Hill Public School in Leamington, and Queen Elizabeth Public School in Windsor.
