Kettle campaign needs volunteers

The Salvation Army's annual Kettle Campaign is still nearly $300,000 dollars short of its fundraising goal this year.

The campaign was launched on November 18 and has raised around $55,000 so far.

Executive Director Major Danny Pinksen said they are looking for more bell ringers to help boost the campaign.

"During the times that we've not had volunteers or bell ringers, which have been quite a few, the amount of funds have gone down drastically," said Pinksen. "We find that if the volunteer is not standing next to the kettle it directly impacts the amount of funds collected."

He said recruiting volunteers has been particularly difficult this year.

"We found calling around to our usual volunteer base that there are a number of people still hesitant in volunteering because of COVID," said Pinksen.

All funds raised stay in Windsor and Essex County to help feed, clothe, and shelter Windsor residents. The Salvation Army Windsor Centre of Hope also offers life skills training, and other community and family services. During the holiday season, the organization gives out food hampers to 700 families and toys to over 2,000 children.

The Kettle Campaign runs until December 24. Donations can also be made through the Salvation Army website.
