A total of eleven cases of COVID-19 connected to the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board were reported Thursday.
Acting on the advice of the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, the board has sent home three classes and one bus cohort from St. John de Brebeuf Catholic Elementary in Kingsville, one class from St. Piux X Catholic Elementary in Tecumseh, plus two classes and two bus cohorts from Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Elementary in Stoney Point.
There was also one class and one bus cohort from Stella Maris Catholic Elementary in Amherstburg, and three classes from St. Joseph Catholic High School in Windsor.
Board spokesman Stephen Fields said all affected students were sent home, and their parents were notified to keep them home Friday.
"A voice message to the entire school community was sent home this evening to inform them about the situation, and to notify the parents of those students who were dismissed that they should not send their children back to school until they have received further direction from the health unit," said Fields.
Parents are still asked to screen their kids for symptoms before sending them to school.
There are a total of 31 active cases of COVID-19 in the English Catholic board as of Thursday night. Students who have not been identified as a close contact may attend class in-person Friday as usual.
Since Wednesday, there have been new cases reported at D.M. Eagle Public School, Eastwood Public School, Gore Hill Public School, W.F. Herman Academy - Elementary, Hugh Beaton Public School, M.D. Bennie Public School, Mt. Carmel-Blytheswood Public School, Sandwich West Public School, and Leamington District Secondary School.
At the Greater Essex County District School Board, there were 54 active student cases, plus 14 involving staff members.
