The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is considering longer hours at its mass vaccination clinic at Devonshire Mall as it continues to ramp up its efforts to get more people their COVID-19 booster shots.
On Wednesday, it announced it would reopen its mass vaccination clinic at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre in Leamington on January 5. Residents can start booking appointments next Wednesday.
Another clinic in West Windsor should open soon. So far, the health unit hasn't said when.
On Thursday, Dupuis said the health unit is working to increase the number of available appointments at the mass vaccination clinic at Devonshire Mall.
One big challenge the health unit faces is finding the staff to operate during extended hours.
The City of Windsor will offer some of its staff to work at the clinic at the former Sears store and the new one in the west end. The health unit has approached other municipalities to work at Leamington's clinic.
Between 30 and 40 people are needed at each of the new locations. Each of those could administer up to 500 shots a day.
Dupuis also thanked the John McGivney Children's Centre for hosting a series of pop-up vaccination clinics this week. She said a small team from the health unit was able to vaccinate up to 500 people each day.
As of Thursday, 93,186 people in the region had their booster shot.
