Number of COVID-19 patients in hospital continues to fall

Windsor-Essex hospitals are still seeing less of an influx of COVID-19 patients, and the number continues to drop.

As of noon Monday, the region's hospital systems reported a total of 49 patients with the virus.

At Windsor Regional Hospital, there were 30 people hospitalized for COVID-19. Of those, 14 are in hospital because of COVID-19, while the rest are in hospital for other reasons but have tested positive. Eighteen of the patients were fully vaccinated, with the rest either not or partially vaccinated. Four patients were in intensive care, all of them fully vaccinated.

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare had just one person with COVID-19 at its facility.

At Erie Shores Healthcare, there were 18 people hospitalized with the virus, with 13 of them there because of it. Eleven of those patients had received two doses of a vaccine.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported a total of 245 new cases of COVID-19 in high-risk settings, with 87 on Saturday, 102 on Sunday, and 56 Monday. No deaths were reported, so the death toll sits at 572.

There are 535 people actively battling the virus, though the health unit warns that the number could be an undercount due to current testing guidelines. The health unit is also following 43 active outbreaks, with 18 in the community, 14 in long-term care facilities, seven in the workplace, and four in hospital wards.
