Lakeshore to restrict heavy truck traffic

Lakeshore residents will soon see less truck traffic moving through some of its neighbourhoods.

The Lakeshore Municipal Council approved last week an amendment to a by-law designed to protect the community's roads. According to By-Law 2-2002, there are now load restrictions on all Class B roadways in Lakeshore.

Heavy truck traffic will be required to stick on county roads and other designated routes.

"This by-law will ensure Lakeshore’s local roads won’t need to be replaced or resurfaced before the end of their expected lifespan," said Mayor Tom Bain in a media release. "That means lower costs needed to maintain the roads but also ensures local businesses and construction projects can carry on without too many extra hurdles."

Crews will soon begin installing signage throughout Lakeshore, informing truckers of the load limits.

The by-law amendment will not affect routine delivery traffic, meaning truckers who use Class B roads as part of their normal delivery routes to Lakeshore properties. The Municipality also said the change allows for flexibility for exemption requests during the project and permit approval processes.

If you have questions about this by-law amendment, contact the Municipality's Operation Services Department.
