Recreation programming back in full force this summer

The City of Windsor plans to offer its full complement of recreation services this summer.

Recreation services have been limited since the pandemic and staff shortages have made it harder to start up all previously offered classes and services.

The city's indoor water park Adventure Bay remains closed and recreational classes in the spring were still limited.

"Our staff is busy working behind the scenes hiring and training staff," said Jen Knight, executive director of recreation and culture with the City of Windsor. "We are going to be offering our day camp program again at multiple locations, we are looking to open all of the outdoor pools and Sandpoint Beach for different activities."

Registration for the camps will open in mid to late May. Knight indicated they will be able to accept many more campers than they have in the last two years.

She said classes on the spring schedule have been filling up.

"People are definitely looking to get back at things. We cautiously reopened based on staffing and making sure that we're maximizing things like physical distancing. So we continue to grow but the programs that we did offer are all filling in really well," said Knight.

Knight said they are still developing plans to reopen Adventure Bay but should be announcing reopening plans soon.
