Toldo's honoured for philanthropy

A philanthropic family in Windsor has been awarded the Hospice Palliative Care Ontario Outstanding Philanthropist Award.

The Toldo family was recognized at a gala in Toronto last Monday night.

The award goes to individuals, families, corporations, organizations, and foundations that demonstrate exceptional generosity in their community.

The Toldo Family Foundation has funded numerous worthwhile causes in Windsor-Essex, including mental health, rehabilitative care, and health education. The University of Windsor named its health education centre the Anthony P. Toldo Health Education Centre, and Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare is home to the Toldo Neurobehavioural Institute. The Toldo Foundation has also supported the Hospice of Windsor and Essex County.

"Your hard work and generosity have consistently contributed to the betterment of the community we call home," said Hospice Executive Director Nancy Brockenshire. "Not only have you offered incredible financial support, you've always been an unbelievable resource for us as someone we could always call for advice."

The relationship between Hospice and the Toldo Family goes back to the 1980s when Tony Toldo Sr. reached out when an employee needed help. Over the years, it has helped build the first Hospice residence in Windsor-Essex and create The Hospice For Life Foundation.
