Community invited to Can-Am Police Fire Games opening ceremonies

The countdown is on for the Can-Am Police-Fire Games being hosted in Windsor this summer.

The opening ceremonies for the event will take place at Windsor's riverfront Festival Plaza on Tuesday, July, 26, 2022.

The event will include live music, food and beverage tents, fireworks, and the lighting of the ceremonial torch. The event is free for everyone in the community thanks to a sponsorship from the Windsor Port Authority.

"Lots of things are happening in between and I think it will be a great event for the community. There are lots of ways for the community to get involved, they can be spectators at many of these events but they can also volunteer,' said General Manager Jan Wilson.

First responders will be competing in 44 events throughout Windsor and Essex County from July 26 to 31. About 500 athletes have already registered for the events, and registration remains open.

"They get to have an opportunity for some camaraderie with their colleagues from across North America, emphasize the importance of physical and mental wellness and enjoy our city and our community and what it has to offer," said Wilson.
