City of Windsor plant sale returns (Video)

Another event is making a comeback after a two-year hiatus because of the pandemic, the City of Windsor Annual Paul Martin Garden Perennial Plant Sale.

The event is Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

It will be the last year the city holds the plant sale in its greenhouse at Lanspeary Park.

Construction on a new $7.5-million greenhouse is well underway in Jackson Park. The new facility is larger, has computerized and automated systems, and is energy efficient. Once it opens, the city will decommission the nearly 100-year-old greenhouse on Giles Boulevard East at Langlois Avenue.

Next year's sale should be in the new greenhouse.

Many of the plants grown by the city are displayed in public parks and rights of way, but each year some are offered to the public each year.

This year, Parks Department has over 100 different species available, including herbs, grasses, flowers, shrubs, and trees.

Manager of Horticulture Wanda Latourneau said residents could make their purchases by credit or debit, and the proceeds will support the Paul Martin Garden at Willistead Park.

The City of Windsor is in the process of reimagining Lanspeary Park. It conducted a public survey earlier this spring. Funding for those changes is included in the capital budget this year, next year, and 2025.
