The number of properties going up for sale in Windsor-Essex is up, but housing sales have slipped for the third consecutive month.
The Windsor Essex County Association of Realtors said 1,438 properties were listed in May, an increase of 37.8 per cent from a year ago when 1,043 went up for sale. So far this year, market activity is up 21 per cent from last year.
However, sales dipped again in May. The association's report shows 583 homes were sold, compared to 733 in May 2021.
Sales started to fall in March when the average selling price peaked at $723,739. Since then, the average price has fallen 10.5 per cent, although it was still up 14.7 per cent from last May. Last month, it was $647,331, while the median was $595,000.
Meanwhile, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation said housing starts dropped by 41 per cent drop in May.
In Windsor, construction started on 45 new single-detached homes, down from 69 a year ago or 35 per cent. All other housing starts fell 44 per cent, down to 94 from 167.
