Windsor RIDE program results in three-day suspensions

Windsor police picked up a handful of infractions during a traffic enforcement blitz over Father's Day weekend.

The Traffic Enforcement Branch conducted a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program on Saturday, interviewing a total of 395 drivers in an effort to determine if anything of them were driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Of those 395 drivers, 21 of them underwent roadside screening. This resulted in the issuing of two automatic three-day licence suspensions for impaired driving.

Also, one driver was cited for having cannabis readily available in the vehicle, one was cited for having an open container of alcohol, and one was given a standard field sobriety test.

RIDE programs are typically conducted at random locations during holiday weekends or in high-traffic areas. The strategy is used frequently near the end of the school year and during the winter holiday season.
