The Windsor Spitfires have brought on board a forward for next season.
The OHL club announced Wednesday evening that it had signed A.J. Spellacy to an OHL Standard Player Agreement. Spellacy was the Spits' most recent third-round priority selection pick.
The Westlake, Ohio native stands 6' 3" and weighs 183 pounds. His first order of business will be to prepare for Spitfires' training camp, set for the end of the summer.
"I have a big summer and a lot of work ahead of me and eager for the challenge," said Spellacy.
Spitfires General Manager Bill Bowler said Spellacy's speed and size will be an asset for the team moving forward.
"We are ecstatic with the signing of AJ to our hockey club," said Bowler. "We are excited about AJ’s potential and his future with our organization. He is a tremendous athlete, and we welcome Anthony and his family to our community."
Spellacy played minor hockey with the Cleveland Barons 15-U AAA team, appearing in 15 games, with six goals for 11 points. He has also played football.
The forward was also invited to USA Hockey's tryout camp for the top 47 players born in 2006.
The Spitfires are coming off a season where they won the OHL Western Conference championship, losing to the Hamilton Bulldogs in seven games in the J. Ross Robertson Cup Finals.
