On Wednesday, a large contingent of OPP officers, members of the LaSalle Police Service, the Ontario Fire Marshall, paramedics, and firefighters searched a residential property on Short Snake Lane. The OPP Clandestine Laboratory Investigative Response Team has special training to dismantle drug labs.

They found over two kg of cocaine and chemicals associated with cocaine extraction. Those chemicals include acetone, isopropyl alcohol, hexane, muriatic acid, and hydrochloric acid.

A hazardous waste management company removed the chemicals, and police said there's no risk to public safety.

So far, police have not charged any suspects, but the investigation is ongoing.

Police ask anyone who suspects there is a drug lab near them to call 1-888-310-1122 immediately. Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The dangers posed by drug labs include harmful fumes, chemical exposure, fire, and explosion. Police recommend keeping a distance.

There are things to watch for should you suspect a drug lab in your neighbourhood. They include chemical odours, garbage containing glassware and soil that never goes to the curb, evidence of a chemical dumping ground, covered or obstructed windows, excessive security around the property, and secretive behaviour. You might also notice people coming and going at strange hours.
