The first all-Canadian, zero-emission connected vehicle made its Windsor debut this week.
Project Arrow was unveiled at Invest WindsorEssex Automobility and Innovation Centre. Invest WindsorEssex's Virtual Reality cave was used to test the autonomous technologies before they were integrated into the physical car.
Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association President Flavio Volpe said this is like a homecoming for the vehicle.
"[Invest WindsorEssex] bought what we were selling at a time when the world was falling apart and invested heavily in it with no return. If we didn't finish the physical product this virtual spend would have been a waste of time and resources for them," said Volpe. "It's especially important to bring it right back here where this thing came to life."
The concept vehicle was first revealed at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.
The final vehicle includes 58 Canadian suppliers.
The vehicle is a dual-motor with 550 horsepower and a 500 km range, 82.5-kilowatt-hour battery. It also features a solar sunroof.
Volpe said they are having many discussions surrounding the sale and production of the vehicle.
"One of the stated goals of this project is to generate $500 million in new contracts for the companies that participated in it. they are in very good discussions, as you can imagine most of those are private company discussions but with the biggest nameplates in the world and I actually could not be happier," said Volpe.
