City councillors help open barre-based fitness studio

A fitness studio offering the city's first barre-based workout is open.

The Barrehouse held a grand opening celebration on Saturday at Walker Road Edna Street with the help of two Windsor City Councillors, Ed Sleiman and Mark McKenzie.

"Starting new ventures requires vision, passion, ideas and hard work, all qualities that I am certain have allowed you to make your dream a reality," said Sleiman, who delivered a message from Mayor Drew Dilkens. "Small businesses and the entrepreneurs who dream up and invest in them are a cornerstone of strong communities."

The studio, offering barre, pilates, and yoga programs for all ages and abilities, is a labour of love of co-owners Paulina and Matt Loiselle.

"Our space is the first of its kind in Windsor," said Paulina Loiselle. "It's such a relief to finally open the space, and we can't wait to help people discover the benefits of barre."

Originally from Edmonton, she moved to Toronto in 2007, where she became an award-winning barre instructor.

She met Matt Loiselle in 2009, and the pair set their sights on opening a studio in Windsor when they moved to the city in 2020.

"We are proud to be 100 per cent locally owned and will always support other businesses," said Matt Loiselle, a Windsor native.

Barres are mounted to the wall and used to promote proper alignment, stability, and support during workouts.

The business is excepting registrants on its website for upcoming classes.
