The Town of Essex has announced a change in the way E.L.K. Energy customers are billed.
Starting in January, the Town will assume the billing for E.L.K. Energy's water and wastewater services. The change is designed to streamline the building process and improve customer service.
"The transition of water and wastewater billing from E.L.K. Energy Inc. to the Town of Essex is a significant change for both residents and staff," said Mayor Sherry Bondy. "This transition represents a substantial cost savings for our ratepayers, and we are well-prepared to offer residents high-quality customer service."
Residents won't see much of a change at first. Customers are asked to continue making payments to E.L.K. for water until they begin receiving bills from the Town itself.
Those who use E.L.K. for their hydro needs will continue to get bills from them for electricity only.
The Town has invited residents to an open house to discuss the billing changes. It's set for Thursday, November 30, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the Essex Centre Sports Complex's Shaheen Room.
Residents are also reminded that they can choose paperless billing or pre-authorized payment by visiting the webpage on the Town's official website. Those who opt-in receive a $1.25 discount per bill.
