Mike Akpata appointed Superintendent of University of Windsor's new Special Constable Service

Campus Community Police at the University of Windsor are getting a new look, a new name, and a new superintendent.

Superintendent Mike Akpata joined the service on November 13 after 21 years of policing experience in Windsor and 26 years of service in the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve.

Akpata graduated from the university's political science program in 1989.

"Michael's wealth of knowledge and dedication to the community aligns seamlessly with the university's commitment to fostering an engaged, healthy and safe campus environment," said Director of Campus Safety and Emergency Planning Sherri Lynne Menard.

Akpata has also worked in the private sector as the team lead of public safety, investigations, and counter-fraud for IBM Canada.

The change in leadership is part of a rebrand for Campus Community Police. It's being renamed the Special Constable Service, and over the next few weeks, officers will get new uniforms, vehicles will have a new design, and signage will change.

Akpata is also involved in local politics, serving as the Deputy Mayor for the Town of LaSalle.
