Essex Holiday Lights Contest returns

Not only does the Town of Essex encourage its residents to decorate their homes for the holidays, but it's also bringing back its annual Holiday Lights Tour Contest.

Participants can submit a photo of their home or business decked out for the season online or on Facebook to enter the contest. The deadline for submissions is January 6.

Residents are then encouraged to use an online interactive map to tour the holiday lights and vote for their favourites.

"The Town of Essex is buzzing with excitement at this time of year," said Mayor Sherry Bondy. "We encourage residents and visitors to take part in the many local events and support our local business owners during the holiday season."

The town will take nominees in four categories. Toyland Award is for the best use of animation or inflatables, the Griswold Award recognizes the best use of lights, and Classic Christmas is for the best traditional decor.

New this year is the People's Choice Award for the entry that gets the most votes on the town's Facebook page.
