Chicken coop, small barn destroyed in Amherstburg fire

Firefighters in Amherstburg managed to save one barn, but not a second one and a chicken coop in a fire on Thursday morning.

They responded to a property on Front Road South between North Side Road and Thrasher Crescent around 6:30 a.m.

Drivers should avoid Front Road in that area until further notice.

The fire started in the chicken coop and spread to a small barn before moving to a second barn on the property.

The fire destroyed the chicken coop and the first barn. Deputy Fire Chief Dan Monk told WindsorNewsToday.ca that heavy equipment will clear the debris.

No one was hurt, but "a couple dozen chickens" were lost in the fire.

Monk said firefighters remain on the scene, and it's too early to give a damage estimate or say how it started.
