Homeowners in Amherstburg with a property assessed at $250,000 will be paying an average of $171.91 more on their property taxes this year.
After nearly two days of deliberations, Amherstburg councillors were able to whittle down the proposed tax levy increase from 7.13 per cent to 6.44 per cent.
"It was a very difficult process and council had a tough time with competing interest, where to spend the few scarce dollars that there actually were," said Amherstburg Mayor Michael Prue.
As part of the budget, the town will permanently hire an executive assistant to the director of parks, facilities, culture and recreation and a new town mechanic.
Capital projects to be completed this year include the extension of Kings Navy Yard Park and the addition of tennis and pickle ball courts at the Libro Centre.
The final budget approval will be completed at a regular council meeting in February.
