Essex seeks volunteers to help feral cats

The Town of Essex needs help carrying out its Trap, Neuter, Return Program, and it's looking for volunteers.

If you're passionate about animal welfare, it might be just the thing to express it.

"We encourage anyone interested in making a positive impact on the well-being of our local feline population to volunteer," said Mayor Sherry Bondy.

Trapping cats so they can be spayed or neutered and returned to their territory is considered one of the most humane means of managing feral cats.

Volunteers trap the cats and take to a veterinarian for surgery. It's proven successful in controlling the population and improving their overall health. In addition to reducing the number of kittens female cats have, it can prevent many diseases, including certain cancers.

Anyone interested in helping can call the Town of Essex at 519-776-7336 ext. 1100.
