Leamington's municipal council will decide Tuesday night whether to move ahead with renovations of the Big Tomato.
The iconic structure on Talbot Street West first opened in 1961 as a tourism booth and remained in operation until 2019. Crews removed the interior last October.
In November, the municipality met with Tony Barraco of Barrineti Construction about possibly saving the structure.
The Big Tomato is structurally sound. However, it needs a lot of work. A report to councillors suggested painting the exterior and interior, installing new foam installation, waterproofing the structure, and giving it new wiring, ventilation, lights and floors.
The project could cost $50,000, funding already included in the 2024 budget.
While the latest report doesn't recommend using it for a tourist booth again, most people get that information online; it does suggest using it for community events like the Mill Street Markets.
