First-quarter sales drop for Windsor-built Pacifica

Despite a rise in demand for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEV), Stellantis Canada has reported a decline in sales for the first quarter of 2024.

Sales figures for Canadian products were released on Wednesday. The Windsor-built Pacifica minivan reported a 40 per cent year-to-year decline in sales. The automaker recorded 782 Pacificas sold in the first three months of the year.

The news was a bit better for another Windsor-built minivan. There were 609 Chrysler Grand Caravans sold in the first quarter, good for a one per cent increase from the same period in 2023.

Nevertheless, Stellantis reported a 12 per cent increase in sales for PHEVs.

"We are coming off a quarter of making headlines, where the made-in-Canada, all-electric 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona muscle car was revealed, and our first BEVs, the 2024 Fiat 500e, are in transit to customers," said Stallantis Canada President Jeff Hines. "Elements of the Dare Forward 2030 strategic plan are coming to market, and our dealer network is excited to show Canadian customers what’s new and what’s next."

For PHEVs, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe saw a seven per cent jump in first-quarter sales, and sales of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe were up 18 per cent.

Overall, Stellantis recorded a 20 per cent decline in sales in the first quarter, with a total of 32,197 vehicles sold so far.
