The Boer War Memorial in Jackson Park is getting a facelift later this month.
Clifford Restoration Limited will restore the memorial starting on April 22. The work will take about five months to complete.
The monument will remain closed during that time, but the rest of Jackson Park will stay open.
The memorial fountain, finished in 1906, was originally outside a post office, but the city moved it to Jackson Park in 1932. The city moved it to its current location on the southern edge of the Queen Elizabeth II Sunken Garden in 1961.
It honours Canadian volunteers who fought for the British military during the war in South Africa from 1899 to 1902.
Meanwhile, on Monday, crews start working in the Remington Booster Park to mill and resurface the sports courts. Those facilities will be closed for about six weeks.
