Essex County OPP kept busy with Easter traffic blitz

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers in Windsor-Essex had their hands full over the four-day Easter weekend.

Police on OPP-patrolled roads laid 252 charges on drivers between March 29 and April 1. Officers also issued 164 warnings during this period.

The enforcement blitz was similar to those run across the province, with the OPP looking for drivers who weren't wearing seat belts or were driving aggressively, impaired, or distracted.

Police issued 13 citations against drivers who didn't buckle up or had passengers who weren't.

Aggressive driving was also an issue, with 132 tickets written for speeding and four for stunt driving or racing. One other got a citation for distracted driving.

Impaired operation remained a problem, with nine arrests made for suspected driving while drunk or high.

"The OPP thanks all drivers and other road users who contributed to safe highways and roads over the busy long weekend," said the OPP in a media release.
