Public meetings planned on the future of Jackson Park's bandshell

The City of Windsor wants to hear from anyone with specific ideas or opportunities for the historic bandshell in Jackson Park.

Stakeholders interested in meeting with city administrators can discuss their ideas by contacting the Parks Department at jacksonparkbandshell@citywindsor.ca by email. The city is booking meetings between Wednesday, April 17 and Friday, June 17.

The city also wants to hear from residents. City staff are holding a public meeting on April 25 at the Optimist Community Centre on Ypres Avenue. Two sessions are planned from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

An online survey will open on Monday, April 22 and close on Sunday, June 23.

Last November, city councillors authorized a two-phase feasibility study for renovating the bandshell, which once hosted the city's biggest events, including the Emancipation Day Festival and Windsor's Battle of the Bands.

The bandshell dates back to 1959. It replaced an earlier one destroyed in a fire. In recent years, it has fallen into disrepair. The feasibility study is the first step towards a decision on whether to save the structure or not.
