The possibility of significant rainfall has led to a statement being issued by the Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA).
ERCA has issued a watershed conditions statement ahead of a system consisting of the remnants of Hurricane Beryl.
"Environment Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources & Forestry Surface Water Monitoring Center are forecasting that remnants of Hurricane Beryl will bring heavy rainfall across southwestern Ontario starting late [Tuesday]/early Wednesday and continue into Thursday," read the statement.
With the current forecast of 40 to 50 millimetres locally, ERCA says standing water and swollen waterways are possible.
"People are encouraged to take extra caution and avoid areas where flooding is occurring as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas during significant rainfall and wind events," read the statement. "The combination of slippery banks and fast-moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards."
The statement is in effect until noon Friday.
