Ruthven resident one of two hurt when personal watercraft explodes

The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating after a personal watercraft carrying two people exploded and caught fire on Sunday.

A 32-year-old from Ruthven and a 48-year-old Cambridge resident were thrown from the watercraft shortly after it left the dock just before 1 p.m.

Elgin County OPP, Malahide Fire Services, and Elgin-St.Thomas EMS responded to the dock in Catfish Creek on Lake Erie near Alymer.

Paramedics took the Ruthven resident to the hospital in St. Thomas while Ornge airlifted the rider from Cambridge to a trauma unit.

Both sustained serious but not life-threatening injuries.
