Kingsville to consider buying old school properties

When the Town of Kingsville hosts a public information centre on Monday night, residents will weigh the pros and cons of buying at least one of three school properties.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m. at Grovedale Arts and Culture Centre on Park Street.

Kingsville District High School, Kingsville Public School, and Jack Miner Public School closed at the end of June.

Those students will all attend the new Erie Migration District School in September.

Mayor Dennis Rogers calls the decision "one of our community's biggest decisions."

The meeting will inform residents about the legislative process to sell school properties, its advantages and disadvantages, and how much the town is willing to pay.

"Council identified the future use of the closed school properties as a priority, and town administration has been working diligently on it," added Kingsville CAO John Norton.

Those who can't attend the meeting can still give their input through the town's online citizen engagement portal, HaveYourSayKingsville.ca. It'll post a project page on its website on Tuesday, and accept feedback until the end of August.
