What's open and closed in Windsor-Essex this Christmas week

The winter holiday season is here, and many public places in Windsor-Essex may be on reduced hours, or even closed, so employees can spend the holiday with loved ones.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall this year on Wednesday and Thursday. Both are federal statutory holidays. All federal, provincial, and municipal offices will be closed on both days. Please contact your municipality for more information, as closure dates may vary.

There will be no mail delivery on Wednesday or Thursday, and Canada Post deliveries may still be delayed following the end of their work stoppage.

All Service Ontario branches are closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, though some transactions can be performed online.

The four publicly-funded school boards serving Windsor-Essex will be on their winter holiday break, with classes resuming on Monday, January 6, 2025. St. Clair College and the University of Windsor will also be closed.

Most Beer Store locations will be open Christmas Eve Tuesday until 6 p.m., with all stores closed Christmas Day. Select outlets are open on Boxing Day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check with your favourite location for specific hours.

At the LCBO, most outlets will close on Christmas Eve at 6 p.m., and remain closed on Wednesday. Select outlets will be open on Boxing Day. Be sure to check their hours to avoid disappointment.

If you're doing some last-minute holiday shopping, Devonshire Mall in Windsor is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Tecumseh Mall is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Windsor Crossing outlet mall in LaSalle is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

All three malls close at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve and are closed all day on Christmas Day.

On Boxing Day, Devonshire Mall is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tecumseh Mall is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Windsor Crossing is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

At the Windsor Public Library, all branches are open till 5 p.m. on Monday, and till 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve. They are closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The 311 Call Centre is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The 211 call centre will operate 24/7 as usual.

There will be no residential garbage, recycling, or yard waste pickup on Christmas Day. Those will be delayed one day. Night commercial and weekly recycling collections are not affected.

The City's public drop-off and household chemical waste depot on Central Avenue will be closed on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Community centres in Windsor will be closed on Christmas Day.

All of the city's rinks and arenas will close at 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The Lanspeary Lions Outdoor Rink will reopen for regular rentals on Boxing Day, and all other arenas will reopen on Friday.

The indoor pool at the WFCU Centre will be open for regular hours and pre-arranged rentals, except for Christmas Eve, when it will close at 3 p.m. The pool is closed Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre will be open with adjusted hours through Sunday, January 5, 2025, expect for Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Adventure Bay Family Water Park will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the winter holiday break, except for Christmas Eve when it is open from noon to 4 p.m, and Christmas Day and Boxing Day when it is closed.

The Homelessness and Housing Help Hub (H4) at Windsor Water World will be open every day from 8 a.m. to midnight.

There will be no metered parking enforcement in Windsor on Wednesday or Thursday. All parking enforcement payment offices will also be closed.

Transit Windsor will run on modified schedules on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Check the website for specific information.

Bright Lights Windsor in Jackson Park is open every evening through Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. The W.E. Made It holiday market will run on Friday and Saturday nights.
