Novice driver charged with impaired operation

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Leamington arrested a 32-year-old novice driver over the weekend.

A patrol officer was on Erie Street South shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday and spotted a vehicle that they suspected was driven by someone impaired.

A traffic stop was conducted, and it was determined that the driver had previously consumed alcohol.

The Leamington man was arrested and taken to the detachment. He has been charged with impaired driving and driving with excessive blood alcohol.

Police also determined that the driver was a novice operator. He is also charged with driving at an unlawful hour as a Class G-1 licence holder and driving with a blood alcohol level over zero.

His driver's licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

The charges have not been proven in court. The driver will have an opportunity to answer the charges in a Windsor court on January 29.
