ERCA honours conservation champions

The Essex Region Conservation Authority has honoured six organizations and individuals for their commitment to creating a sustainable future for the region.

"It's very inspiring to have the opportunity to celebrate so many organizations and individuals who have made an incredible impact on the environment," said ERCA Chair Molly Allaire.

Allaire was also acclaimed as the chair on Thursday night.

The winners this year are:

John R. Park Homestead for its advocacy for protecting heritage buildings.

The Education Award went to Andrew Pula, who has engaged students in environmental initiatives and stewardship opportunities for the past 25 years.

Wayne King won the Volunteer Award for documenting changes in Hillman Marsh and engaging the community in its restoration.

Green Sun Rising also won a Volunteer Award for its efforts to create a clean energy system while supporting tree planting and other environmental activities.

The Jack Miner Bird Sanctuary won the Environmental Achievement Award for its 120-year legacy of conservation.

The Dennis Chase Staff Award was awarded to Gina Pannunzio for her kindness, optimism, and dedication to a future of conservation.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
