Windsor's police chief will turn in his badge later this year.
The Windsor Police Service Board announced late Wednesday afternoon that Chief Jason Bellaire will retire in November.
"On behalf of the Windsor Police Service Board, we congratulate Chief Bellaire on the announcement of his pending retirement in November 2025," read a release from the board. "The Board thanks the Chief for his many years of service to our community and appreciates the lead-time provided to allow the Board to undertake a robust recruitment process to find the next leader of the Windsor Police Service."
Bellaire was named chief in 2022 after the retirement of Pam Mizuno, the City's first female chief.
During his tenure as Windsor's top cop, Bellaire oversaw an initiative in the Glengarry area that resulted in a significant drop in crime. The service also launched a pilot project to deal with intimate partner violence.
The police service board will provide additional details at its next public meeting in March, and begin the search for Bellaire's successor.
