Suspect, surety arrested on alleged bail violations

A 26-year-old man and his surety have been arrested for alleged violations of bail conditions.

On February 10, the man was granted bail in a Toronto court on multiple charges, including assault, uttering death threats, and failure to comply with a release order. As a condition of his release, he was ordered to undergo house arrest in Windsor and wear an electronic monitor.

Two days later, Windsor police bail compliance officers learned that the man breached those conditions, and arrested him in the area of Tecumseh Road East and Annie Street. There is an added charge of failure to comply with a release order.

Windsor police also arrested his 57-year-old surety for one count of facilitating a breach of a release order.

A surety is a person who agrees to supervise someone who is out on bail and ensures they are following all conditions.

The charges have not been proven in court.

The bail compliance officers are part of the Offender Management Unit, a partnership between Windsor and LaSalle police that supervises high-risk individuals placed under house arrest, curfew, or electronic monitoring.
