The federal Conservative Party Leader's campaign made a stop in a city that has begun feeling the brunt of tariffs by the U.S. government.
Pierre Poilievre held a Canada First rally Friday evening, attended by hundreds of supporters, plus local Conservative candidates Harbinder Gill, Kathy Borrelli, Chris Lewis, and Dave Epp.
Many held signs with the word "Change", while others displayed signs showing various messages and slogans.
Poilievre spoke for over 45 minutes, including a pause midway through to allow someone in the crowd to be treated for a medical issue.
Tariffs were the first issue Poilievre discussed, an issue that all major parties in the election have agreed on in principle. Poilievre said if the Tories are in power, they will protect workers across Canada and in Windsor.
"Let's start with the obvious fact that destructive tariffs are Donald Trump are utterly unacceptable and wrong, and we will fight back against them," said Poilievre.
Poilievre said a Conservative government in Ottawa will create a fund to protect workers in industries most vulnerable to tariffs, allowing companies to continue operating and employees to remain on the job.
The Conservative leader is the third party leader to campaign in Windsor. Liberal Leader Mark Carney was in the city on March 26, announcing a Liberal plan to protect workers during the trade war with the U.S.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh was last in Windsor on March 27. He announced a pledge that his party, if elected, would bar companies from removing equipment paid for by government loans and grants from manufacturing plants.
The election is April 28.
