For the third straight month this year, housing starts fell in Windsor.
Construction started on only 19 single-detached homes in March, down 14 per cent from a year ago, while ground broke on nine multi-unit projects. That's a drop of 59 per cent from March 2024.
So far this year, 50 single-detached homes and 73 multi-unit buildings, a drop of 54 per cent.
February's housing starts were down 57 per cent, while in January, they dropped 79 per cent.
In a report released Wednesday morning, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation said the six-month trend in housing starts across Canada fell 0.7 per cent last month. Actual housing starts fell 12.5 per cent year-over-year in municipalities with a population of 10,000 or greater.
Ontario didn't fare any better. The report stated housing starts, so far this year, are down 38 per cent. They're down 46 per cent compared to March 2024.
The report on April housing starts is expected on May 15.
