Windsor police arrest three for vehicle theft

Windsor police say three people, already on bail conditions from an earlier arrest, are in trouble again.

On Sunday, officers took a report on a stolen truck on Thompson Boulevard near Ontario Street. The following day, members of the Target Base Unit spotted the vehicle on Matchett Road and Prince Road and soon saw the three suspects.

When police tried to move in for the arrest, the driver suddenly put the truck in reverse, hit a parked vehicle, and drove it over a curb and onto a grassy area, barely missing the officers. In the interest of public safety, police did not pursue the truck, which was found damaged later on Monday.

On Wednesday, the OPP-led Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad arrested a 15-year-old girl near Prince Road and Vaughan Street. Later, a 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old man were also arrested.

The girl can't be identified under the Ontario Youth Criminal Justice Act.

All three are charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. The two adult men are also accused of failure to comply with a release order.

In addition, the 19-year-old is charged with vehicle theft and dangerous driving. The 21-year-old is also charged with breach of probation.

Windsor police say these three suspects were previously released with conditions after being charged with the robbery of a puppy last month.

None of the charges have been proven in court.
