Property crime continued to fall last month in Windsor and Amherstburg.
That's according to the Windsor police's crime statistics for April, which were released on social media Friday.
When compared to April 2024, crimes against property in both municipalities went down by 20.1 per cent. On a year-to-year comparison, property crime dropped by 16.3 per cent so far in 2025, compared to between January and April 2024.
Police took 797 reports for property crimes, which include break-and-enter, theft, fraud, mischief, possession of stolen property, and arson.
So far in 2025, 3,209 property incidents have been reported.
Personal crime continued to go in the opposite direction in April. There were 264 complaints made last month for a year-to-year increase of 7.3 per cent. Murder, sexual assault, abduction, assault, robbery, and harassment fall into this category.
This year so far, there were 942 personal crimes reported, up 4.4 per cent.
Despite a rise in April for Criminal Code violations, they are down year-to-date. These include offences not falling under property or personal crime. Year-to-year, Windsor police said there was an 8.1 per cent decrease for April. For 2025 so far, the decrease was 5.5 per cent.
Child pornography, non-violent weapons offences, betting and gaming offences, and administration of justice violations are in this category.
Ward by ward in the City of Windsor only, both the highest property and personal crime rates continue to be in Ward 3, which includes downtown.
Ward 7 had the lowest number of property crimes in April, while Ward 6 had the lowest number of personal crime reports.
