Windsor-Essex's sole Opposition MPP has said that the Ontario budget has fallen short.
Windsor West MPP Lisa Gretzky of the NDP released a statement Friday morning, reacting to the proposed spending plan.
Gretzky said the budget isn't good enough to help Ontarians who need help the most.
"Through their budget, the Premier and his government had an opportunity to meet the moment and deliver tangible relief for people in Windsor and across the province. Instead, they delivered disappointment," said Gretzky.
The NDP Shadow Minister for Children, Community, and Social Services said some of her more vulnerable constituents are left out.
"We’re seeing more cuts to children, community and social services, to those living with disabilities, healthcare, universities and colleges," said Gretzky. "There’s no plan for addressing intimate partner or gender-based violence, or support for victims and survivors, and no plan to address the housing crisis, especially affordable housing, that we’re facing in Windsor and across Ontario."
Gretzky added that despite the budget's plan to invest $30-billion in building more schools and childcare spaces, and adding 2,600 teachers, the plan will result in a reduction in funding of $1,500 per pupil.
Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy formally tabled the record-breaking $232.5 billion budget on Thursday.
