Lakeshore introduces rodent abatement program

The Municipality of Lakeshore wants to help residents rid their properties of a certain kind of four-legged creature.

Lakeshore has launched its Residential Rat Abatement Pilot Program. Eligible homeowners may receive a 50 per cent rebate, up to $200, on the cost of licenced pest control work.

The purpose of the program is to help residents with preventative maintenance and keep their properties critter-free, said Mayor Tracey Bailey.

"We’re happy to see the launch of the pilot program and encourage affected residents to apply," said Bailey. "Pilot programs like this one are an effective way to understand our communities’ needs for specific services while having a limited impact on the overall budget."

Residents may apply by completing a short intake form and allowing a municipal by-law officer to conduct an exterior inspection. Once the minimum property standards are confirmed, the pest control service can be performed, and residents may submit the receipts for reimbursement once it is completed.

The program is funded with $10,000 through either the end of 2025 or until the funding runs out, whichever comes first.

Information on the program can be found on the Municipality's official website.
